Wikipedia pages are never really finished

Unlike a website page a business fully controls, a Wikipedia article can be edited by anyone at any time, including other editors who may add outdated information, remove sourced content they disagree with, or flag the page for review under Wikipedia’s notability or conflict-of-interest policies. Publishing the page is the start of an ongoing responsibility, not a one-time deliverable.

Watch for neutrality and conflict-of-interest flags

Wikipedia’s volunteer editors are specifically alert to pages that read like marketing copy, and a page that drifts toward promotional language over time, through well-meaning edits by employees or overly generous contributors, risks being flagged with a maintenance banner or, in serious cases, nominated for deletion. Periodic review against Wikipedia’s neutral point of view standard is part of keeping the page stable.

Outdated information is a quieter but common problem

A Wikipedia page for a real, active business will fall out of date as leadership changes, the company is acquired, or key facts about the business shift. Because nobody is automatically notified when a company’s Wikipedia page grows stale, this tends to go unnoticed until a customer, journalist, or investor points it out.

Any edits should go through Wikipedia's own disclosure process

Business owners and their representatives can request or suggest edits to their own page, but Wikipedia requires this to be disclosed as a conflict of interest, typically through the article talk page rather than direct editing. Handling this incorrectly is one of the more common ways a page ends up flagged or reverted. Our Wikipedia team handles ongoing monitoring and properly disclosed edit requests after launch, not just the initial page creation.
