Choosing a Salesforce Marketing Cloud Implementation Partner
Marketing Ops · Cyber Elite Team
Ask what they've actually built, not just what they're certified in
Salesforce certifications are a reasonable baseline, but they don’t tell you whether a partner has built multi-step customer journeys, connected SFMC to a CRM with real data hygiene requirements, or troubleshot deliverability issues at scale. Ask for specifics: what data extensions, what automation studio builds, what journey complexity they’ve actually shipped.
Understand who owns data architecture
The most common source of SFMC problems isn’t the platform — it’s the data model underneath it. Before implementation starts, get clear on who’s responsible for defining data extensions, contact keys, and subscriber relationships. A partner who treats this as “your team’s problem” is handing you the hardest part of the project.
Ask how they handle deliverability, not just automation
A technically correct journey that lands in spam isn’t a success. A good SFMC partner should be able to speak concretely about sender authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), sending domain reputation, and how they structure send frequency to protect deliverability — not just how they build the automation itself.
Get Clarity on Handoff and Ongoing Ownership
Implementation is a project; running Marketing Cloud well is ongoing work. Before signing, agree on what happens after launch — does the partner stay on for optimization, or is your team expected to take over a platform someone else built?
