Executive vs. Company Wikipedia Pages

Company notability and personal notability are evaluated under separate guidelines

A company’s Wikipedia eligibility is assessed under Wikipedia’s organizational notability guideline, while a person’s eligibility is assessed under a separate biographical notability guideline. Coverage that clearly establishes a company as notable does not automatically transfer to the founder, since the coverage needs to specifically discuss the individual in independent, substantive depth to count for a biography.

Being quoted as a company spokesperson is not the same as being covered personally

An executive frequently quoted in press coverage about their company’s products, funding, or business decisions is being covered in their professional capacity representing the business, not as an independently notable individual. Wikipedia’s biography guideline looks for coverage that treats the person themselves as the subject, not primarily the company they represent.

A separate page can create more scrutiny risk, not less

Attempting to create an executive biography page without a genuinely strong independent case, on the assumption that a company page’s existence helps, often draws additional scrutiny and can result in the page being nominated for deletion, which sometimes then draws unwanted attention to the company page as well.

Sometimes the honest answer is that only one of the two pages is currently justified

It is common, and entirely normal, for a business to have a solid, well-documented case for a company Wikipedia page while its founder does not yet have enough independent personal coverage to justify a separate biography, or vice versa. Our Wikipedia team assesses both cases honestly and separately rather than assuming one follows from the other.
